Wall Street opens mixed on Tuesday
Major equity indexes in the U.S. started the day on a mixed note with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 rising 0.45% and 0.2%, respectively, and the Nasdaq Composite losing 0.2%.
Earlier in the day, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Fox Business that he was expecting to see significant progress in trade talks with China later this week. Commenting on the state of the economy, Mnuchin said that the U.S. economy was strong and companies were doing well. Boosted by Mnuchin's comments, the trade-sensitive S&P 500 Industrials Index rise more than 1% in the early trade to lead the gains.
On the other hand, the S&P 500 Communications Services Index loses 0.63% and the S&P 500 Technology Index drops 0.2% on fears of tech companies losing profit amid weak Chinese demand to keep the Nasdaq Composite Index in the negative territory.
